Rockin' Lobster Bash 2016 Recap / by Taylor Wade

This year marked the sixth annual Rockin’ Lobster Bash, hosted by WXRT and Supreme Lobster Co. and fueled by Chicago’s most talented leaders in culinary and visual arts.

More than 1500 attendees gathered under one roof inside the Revel Fulton Market to devour lobster, sip cocktails, and visually experience pop art at it’s finest.

Chicago pop art icon, Peter Mars, was invited to curate the sold-out event. Mars installed seventy-five pieces, covering an acre of wall space with artistic works ranging from rock and roll legends Elvis Presley and David Bowie to superhero favorites including Invisible Girl and Wonder Woman. His other works included numerous cultural icons including Marilyn Monroe, John Dillinger, and Rosie the Riveter.

Mars' pop art depiction of Big Boy set the backdrop for the circus side show of aerialists and fire dancers from Pyrotechniq Fire Troupe.

Mars also painted two massive indoor hanging parachutes that served as focal points inside the massive warehouse space.

A custom, limited edition piece by Mars, titled Rock Lobster, was an event favorite, selling out quickly before the night’s end.

The event's roster of presenting Chefs and Mixologists was the best yet with multiple Michelin Stars and James Beard Winners. The lineup included Rick Bayless (Frontera Grill and Xoco), Matt Troost (Charlatan and Three Aces), Anamaria Solis (Eddie Z’s), Ethan Forman (H. Forman & Son), Brad Kilgore (Alter), Brian Ahern (Boeufhaus), Jared Wentworth (Longman & Eagle), Jimmy Bannos Jr. (Purple Pig), among others.

The event was a major success thanks to its sponsors: WXRT and Supreme Lobster Co., the extremely talented participants involved, and of course the great city of Chicago for the unwavering support. Until next year!
