Heidelberg Lithograph exhibition poster from a 2013 exhibition at Chicago’s Firecat Projects. This Mars exhibition told the story of notorious gangster John Dillinger. 

During the 1930s, the financial Depression created a widespread hatred of banks and financial institutions, making folk heroes of famous bank robbers. 

With movie-star looks, and suitcases full of cash, Dillinger soon became the toast of Chicago, and rose quickly to national fame,.. and the top of the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

Dillinger was later portrayed by Johnny Dep in the film noire classic, Public Enemies.

Known as a daring escape artist, John Dillinger proved impossible to keep in a jail cell. After being betrayed by the infamous “Lady in Red” he was killed by FBI agents in a brief skirmish in front of Chicago’s Biograph Theater.
